Lansdowne named after the Viceroy of India, Lord Lansdowne, was founded in 1887. During the British period, Lansdowne was a major place of activities of freedom fighters. It is situated 1,706 meters above sea level surrounded by thick oak and blue pine forests in the Pauri Garhwal district of Uttrakhand.
Sightseeing attractions in and around the city include The War Memorial at the Parade Ground of the Garhwal Rifles Centre, Regimental Museum, Santoshi Mata Temple, St. Mary’s Church, Tip in Top and Bhullatal Lake.
